Please note, all of these are real people, and all of them labelled "Dr." have a doctorate or honorary doctorate degree, from what we were able to learn on the web. The plaque was made using the GIMP by our Comp Ops at the time, Heather Stern, and was presented to our then-captain Ken Parker, and to Pete Briggs, the captain of our spnsoring vessel, as a big surprise at our one-year launch anniversary party. |

Starfleet CommandThese were the people in the chain of command for Starfleet International at the time of our launch.
- Rear Admiral Ed Nowlin
- Commodore Jerry Tien
- Vice Admiral Jonathan "Gumby" Simmons
- Admiral Dennis Gray -- Shuttle Operations Command (ShOC)
- Fleet Captain Pete Briggs -- CO of our sponsoring vessel, U.S.S. Simonov
- Col. Stephen Henderson, Starfleet Marines -- XO of U.S.S. Simonov
Engineering GroupOn plaques from the show this section honors the stage crew. In ours it honors the software engineers of the early and current free software universe. Without them, we would not have had the common interest that brought us together.
Ranks are Dr. if a doctorate degree was found for them, made up otherwise.
- Dr. Brian Kernighan
- Dr. Dennis Ritchie
- Admiral Kenneth Thompson
Their efforts to make some minimal fragments of MULTICS useful on a mere PDP-7 were the real origins of UNIX.- Dr. Marshall Kirk McKusick
One among many who improved the licensed AT&T source code base with a Distribution of feature and bugfix patches to other licensees, and the current defender of their mascot. BSD has come a long way since the days of station wagons full of tapes.- Dr. Linus Torvalds
A student in Finland wrote a kernel and braindead disk driver for his thesis work. He shared it with a few friends...- Fleet Captain Alan Cox
At the time he was maintainer of the stable Linux kernel code. Also, he's one of a handful of core developers who help Linus in cleaning up submitted patches for merging into the main kernels.- Dr. Paul MacKerras
Maintainer of a number of core features for the PowerPC port, and PPP drivers, among other things. If you ever reach the net using Linux and a dialup connection, you're using his work. And if you think Really Different (Linux on your Macintosh) you'll use his code to boot up.
Advanced TechnologiesWe've never met either of these scientists. But when I dug into the search engines for "warp drive" I found their research, other scientists referencing them, and their thoughts on new modes of propulsion and matters of quantum physics. If we are ever going to leave this mudball, it's scientists like these gentlemen who will have to lead the way.
Yard EngineersWithout these people we'd still be deciding which ship to fly around in.
- Admiral Alex Rozenzweig
At the time, our liaison with Starfleet's Vehicle Registry. He helped us wade through possibilities for a research vessel on the edge of Borg space. Nowadays (2002) he is the Shuttle Operations Commander.- Captain Charles Many
This man has the distinction of being the only vendor I could find for a model of Olympic class vessels. Although the actual modelmaker was slow to get us our product, Charles was always a perfect gentleman and offered me many alternatives in Star Trek and other goodies. If you ever think to buy a starship model, I heartily recommend you call The Gamer's Matrix and they will get you the best. (The modelling shop was called "Q's Continuum" at the time; the small shops in the same building merged into one, and they've moved, but it's the same people.)
MottoShe Dreams of the Future...
Our namesake was one of the first women mathemeticians and the earliest programmer (though computers themselves would not be built for a long time after). We were only able to find three photos of her around the web, for all our searching. In our logo, the child Ada looks on dreaming as a research starship zips by, heading into the 24th century by way of our own place and time.
We too, dream of the future and what effects our efforts will have there.
